Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira in Belur will call only students of the outgoing batch at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, studying lab-based subjects, when the college reopens for in-person classes on November 16.

In subsequent phases, the college will bring those pursuing humanities. A blended mode of learning will continue till all students are back on the campus.

Scottish Church College will call students who are in fifth semester to join hostels from November 15. Students without a single dose of vaccine will not be allowed in hostels.

At the Belur college, the students who are being called started arriving on Sunday.

Principal Swami Ekachittananda said calling only those who are in the fifth semester (UG) and third semester (postgraduate) in the first phase would help maintain physical distancing norms.

The 80-odd students from the two batches will isolate themselves for a week before shifting to hostels, said a college official.

“The students will attend practical classes. Practicals cannot be held on digital platforms. As for theory classes, even the students who are on the campus will attend them on online platforms,” Swami Ekachittananda told The Telegraph.

“We will continue with the blended learning mode in at least the ongoing semester.”

The department of computer science will ask students to go home after attending practicals for two to three weeks. Other departments, including physics, want to keep the students for a longer period for attending the practicals.

In the next phase, the college wants to call those in the undergraduate second year and studying lab-based subjects.

At Scottish Church College, the students at hostels will not be allowed to dine together in the dining hall.

“The students have to collect their meals from Ogilvie Hostel individually in their personal tiffin boxes. We are taking these measures to avoid crowding in the hostel,” said principal Madhumanjari Mandal.
