Jadavpur University will tell the state government that the 900-odd students who have not received any Covid vaccine dose yet be given the first jab on September 30 and October 1.
The university held a meeting on Friday on preparedness for the reopening of the campus for in-person classes.
Officials said JU wanted to give the 2,000-odd students who had taken the first dose so far the second jab on October 4, 5, 7 and 8.
The university has shared the details of a survey with the higher education department, which has decided to vaccinate students across campuses in preparation of a possible reopening in November.
The heads of the departments and schools have been asked to submit a detailed report about the laboratory equipment and classroom facilities within October 1 to the registrar Snehamanju Basu so the university remains prepared to resume academic activities.
“We will hold the camp in TEQUIP Building on the main campus. We are gathering data to find out about the students who would have to be vaccinated in a decentralized way with the help of local administration,” said registrar Basu.
The doctors attached with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation visited the campus to take stock of the preparedness for holding the vaccination drive.
Partha Pratim Roy, the general secretary of the teachers’ association who was engaged by the university to oversee conduct of the survey, said they want to complete the vaccination for students and other stakeholders before the start of Puja vacation.
“An update has been sought about the laboratory equipment and classroom facilities within October 1 so that we can get ourselves ready in all respects for a possible physical reopening after the Puja break. Since the campus has remained shut for the past 19 months, some of the machines might have malfunctioned. In that case, we have to get them back in shape,” said Roy.
The university authorities will meet later to decide on recalling students in batches.
