Jadavpur University will recall students in phases and the respective faculty will decide who they will call in each phase as the campus reopens for in-person classes from November 16.
The university decided at a meeting with student representatives that in the arts faculty, one year from undergraduate and one year from postgraduate will come to campus first.
The respective department in the faculty will decide which year will come first, said a JU official.
In the science faculty, undergraduate second-year and postgraduate first-year students will return first.
Parthapratim Roy, an associate professor of the physics department said undergraduate third-year students were not being called as their course had been covered.
“Theory and practical classes for those being called will be carried out following Covid protocol. Details will be worked out soon,” he said.
For postgraduate second-year (day and evening), the departments will decide whether they will call students now or later.
In the engineering faculty, postgraduate first-year students will come first.
For postgraduate second-year, the respective departments will decide when to call the students, said a JU official.
Undergraduate second, third and fourth years will continue to have classes in the online mode until their exams, which are scheduled for December.
For BTech first-year, the faculty council may take a decision based on the vaccination status of the students, said another official.
“Some hands-on experiments may be arranged for BTech second-year students sometime in the end of November or beginning of December,” he said.
In the first phase, all PhD and MPhil students will come to campus, he added.
