A man, who had allegedly introduced himself as an officer of the rank of deputy secretary attached to the chief minister’s office at Nabanna, was arrested on Friday for allegedly sending objectionable text messages to a woman official of a government hospital.

Police said they received a complaint in the last week of February from the woman who alleged that the accused person — identified as Basudeb Das — had impersonated an official of the deputy secretary in the CMO.

“According to the complaint, Das initially went to the hospital for treatment of an acquaintance. There he met other doctors and officials, including the complainant, and started claiming that he was attached to the CMO and could help the hospital officials in expediting several government projects that had been pending,” said an officer of Beniapukur police station, where the complaint had been lodged.

The police said the hospital officials got suspicious about his claims and tried to verify with the CMO. They then found that there was no one with that name at the CMO, the police added.

“When he realised that his lies have been caught, he started sending abusive text messages to the woman and threatening other senior officials with dire consequences through text messages. When they blocked his number, he used multiple numbers to send them abusive messages,” the officer said.

Based on the complaint lodged by the woman, officers of Beniapukur police station started a case against him. Das has been charged under sections of cheating and impersonation.

Two bombs found in school

Two country-made bombs were found on premises of Hasanpur Rajeshpuri Vidyapeeth in Murshidabad’s Hasanpur on Friday morning.

“The school management informed the police, who closed down the premises around 10am and began a screening,” said a school official.

“The school was deemed safe by afternoon. It will resume operations on Saturday,” a police officer said.
