A third hospital opened doors on Broadway this Sunday adding to the sizeable list of healthcare institutions in Salt Lake. The 184-bed multispecialty hospital is located in HB Block in Sector III.

HP Ghosh Hospital, a unit of The Eastern India Heart Care & Research Foundation, spans over 75,000 sq feet across 10 floors. It focuses mainly on cardiology, neurology, spine and orthopaedic treatment, and would admit patients with related ailments. The facility has state-of-the-art operation theatres and offers post-operative tertiary care other than medical services.

The hospital also offers a full range of diagnostic services and outpatient consultation in all other departments including ENT, paediatric, medicine and gastroenterology. The hospital is being backed by Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, managing director and chief executive officer of Bandhan Bank, and is named after his late father, Haripada Ghosh. “This is a non-profit hospital and if we can provide the best of care at a reasonable cost, it will be yeoman service offered to the neighbourhood,” he added.

The most important facilities needed in a person’s life, Ghosh pointed out, were financial service, educational service and health service. “During the initial years of my career, I had worked to provide financial service to society. Now as I enter the healthcare sector, I am trying to provide the best of services here as well. We have brought the most modern devices and in future too we plan to continue doing so,” said Ghosh.

This hospital was inaugurated by cricket icon Sourav Ganguly, in the presence of doctors and other staff members of the hospital. “There is a lot of trust associated with the Bandhan Bank brand. So we expect the hospital also to be trustworthy,” he said. Also present were veteran doctor Sukumar Mukherjee and Sujit Bose, the minister of state for fire and emergency services and the local MLA.

The plot was earmarked for a cardiology hospital in the master plan, where the area in Sector III is demarcated as a hospital zone, but a trust which was developing it abandoned the project. “It stood as a deserted three-storeyed building for almost 10 years. We took over the trust and completed the hospital,” the chief executive officer of the hospital, Somnath Bhattacharya said.

Among the range of services offered, some will be especially of help to the senior citizens of the township, who comprise a significant percentage of the population. “We offer services in rheumatology and endocrinology which can be helpful for the aged population in Salt Lake,” Bhattacharya said.

The hospital also has a spacious and advanced CathLab on a floor dedicated to cardiology. “We have Philips Azurian 10, a high-performance image-guided therapy solution that allows interventional teams to perform challenging cardiac interventions. We have ENT diagnostic workstation with ATMOS treatment equipment engineered in Germany. Now a patient coming for outpatient department consultation will not need to be taken elsewhere for examination and/ or therapy of the ear, nose and throat as the workstation is fully equipped with relevant treatment units,” the CEO pointed out.

“We have kept our fees moderate. If our ambulance attends an emergency call, it will be accompanied by a doctor. Soon we will be applying to the government for admissions under its Swasthya Sathi scheme,” he added.
