A history-sheeter has been booked for alleged attempt to rape, disrobing and attempt to murder a 21-year-old woman and her siblings when they tried to protest, police said.
Sheikh Vinod has been arrested several times by the city police for alleged kidnapping, murder and extortion.
Officers of Golf Green police station arrested Vinod on Saturday based on a complaint they received from a woman.
According to the complaint, Vinod, with the help of another woman whom he had introduced as his cousin, had tried to rape her. They assaulted the woman’s sister and brother on a later date when they tried to confront him about the incident, said an officer of Golf Green police station.
The alleged incident happened in the last week of June at a call centre office at Jubilee Park near Jadavpur. But the matter was reported to the police only recently. “The victim has said that initially she was traumatised and hence, there was a delay in lodging a formal complaint,” said the officer.
Property portal fraud
A Beleghata resident, businessman Subhasish Chatterjee, 47, who had put up an advertisement on an online property portal to rent out his apartment, was cheated of Rs 44,000 by a caller impersonating a government official who convinced him to transfer the money.
No one was arrested till Saturday evening.
