Higher secondary examinees feared drowned in Hooghly

The duo had gone to take a dip after the school-leaving exams ended on Wednesday

Two higher secondary examinees who went to take a dip in the Hooghly after the school-leaving exams ended on Wednesday are feared drowned, police said.

A search was on for Mohammad Bilal and Sheikh Ishrafil, both 18 and residents of Topsia in east Kolkata. The police said they could not be found till late on Wednesday.

A team from the disaster management group was engaged to search for the two.

“Today was the last paper of the HS exams. After writing their paper, Bilal and Ishrafil and four others went to Bajekadamtala Ghat to take a dip in the Hooghly,” said an officer of the river traffic police.

Around 4pm their friends raised an alarm that Bilal and Ishrafil were missing.

Officers of the river traffic police alerted North Port police station and the disaster management group of Kolkata police.

The police said they were in touch with the families of the two boys.
