Ankita, who had appeared in the 2016 state-level selection test, lost her job after she was accused of taking advantage of her minister father Paresh Adhikary’s position to get her name on the merit list.

The high court sacked Ankita in May 2022, three years after she got the job in a government-aided school in Cooch Behar, and directed her to deposit the salary paid to her since she joined the service with the court’s registrar-general.

Babita Sarkar

Babita Sarkar was appointed in June 2022 to replace Ankita in the Cooch Behar school. In May 2023, the high court scrapped Babita’s appointment after it emerged that she was awarded more marks in the academic score segment than she deserved in the 2016 state-level selection test.

The court ordered that Anamika Roy would be appointed to the post, but “in a suitable school nearer her residence... she should be... in a school which is not more than 15/20km away from her residence...”.

The court also said Babita would have to hand the money she got from Ankita to Anamika.

Anamika Roy

Anamika, who joined a school in Siliguri in September 2023, is set to lose her job following the high court order scrapping the recruitment of all those who had appeared in the 2016 test.

“The state government has said it will move the Supreme Court. Otherwise, I would have decided to file a legal challenge to the order,” Anamika said.
