Some of the 842 Group C employees in secondary schools whose services were terminated by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the high court on Friday moved an appeal before the division bench headed by Justice Subrata Talukdar on Monday.

The bench asked the lawyers appearing for the candidates to file the case in the appropriate section of the court, after which it will come up for hearing before the bench.

“We will complete all the formalities and try to move the appeal latest by Tuesday,” a lawyer appearing for the appellants said.

On Friday, Justice Gangopadhyay had asked the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) to cancel the job recommendations of 785 Group C employees because they got their jobs through manipulation of marks.

The same day the judge directly cancelled the appointment of another 57 Group C employees as the commission failed to track their letters of recommendation or documents pertaining to their counselling.

“Earlier, when the commission had terminated the appointment of 1,911 Group D employees on the ground that they had got their jobs through manipulation of marks, they moved a division bench, which upheld the termination order. Let these Group C employees move the division bench. The commission will do whatever the bench tells it to do,” said a WBSSC official.
