Three or four men are suspected to have entered the office of gold businessman Dilip Kumar Gupta and murdered him on Sunday evening, police said.

Gupta, 61, a resident of Alipore, was found murdered in his Shibtala Street office at Posta in northwest Kolkata’s Burrabazar area on Sunday. No one had been arrested till Monday evening.

Police said they have received a complaint mentioning that a large quantity of gold was missing from the office after the incident.

An investigator said analysing the CCTV footage of a camera near the building where the incident happened, three or four men were spotted going inside the building. Then the footage of a camera in the front room of the office purportedly showed the men speaking to the victim and then dragging him inside. There is no camera in the second room of the office, the police said. “The killers were wearing caps and masks, hence their faces were not visible. One thing is apparent that the killer knew his assailants,” said an officer of Posta police station.

Investigators on Monday interrogated employees of the office to find more details about the suspect who is believed to be from Bihar.

The police said the purported footage showed the men initially pushing and punching the man before he was being dragged into the other room. Gupta’s body was first spotted by one of his employees who had called Posta police station.
