A third-year student of history was found hanging in his room on Monday evening on the southern fringes of the city.

Police said they have found a note in which the student blamed one of his college-mates for his death.

The youth’s family has lodged a police complaint, based on which a case under the IPC section related to abetment to suicide has been started.

A family member who read the note said the youth had mentioned that he had been helping the woman friend for the last three years by paying her college fees and buying her clothes but now she had allegedly left him for another man.

“My nephew has left a detailed suicide note. It is clear that he was under tremendous mental pressure because of this woman, who used him and then left him for someone else. He was a very good boy and never mentioned his problems or state of mind to any of us,” said the young man’s uncle.

The purported note mentioned in detail the financial assistance the youth had given to the woman and alleged that she later developed a relationship with another man, the police said.

“The victim has mentioned the name and phone number of the woman whom he held responsible for his death. He also said she should be punished for her actions,” said an officer of the police station where the case has been registered.

A senior police officer said they had summoned the woman to the police station for questioning. “The abetment to suicide charge is difficult to prove unless there is concrete evidence. We have seized the mobile phone of the victim and will analyse the phone for any evidence,” the officer said.
