Three occupants of a Honda City and a home guard were injured after the vehicle apparently lost control and hit a stationary motorcycle before ramming into a median divider on EM Bypass, at Maniktala, on Sunday afternoon, police said.
The Honda City, which was moving towards Ultadanga from the direction of Beleghata, allegedly hit the motorcycle first around 2.40pm. The two-wheeler belongs to home guard Sambhu Bain, who is attached to o the Ultadanga traffic guard.
“Bain, who was on duty, was standing right beside the two-wheeler and was injured in the crash. He was taken to hospital, from where he was discharged after treatment,” said an officer of the traffic department.
“After that, the car crashed into the median divider on the Bypass. Three occupants of the car, who are all residents of Bangur Avenue, have been hospitalised.”
The police identified the injured occupants of the Honda City as Kakali Roy, 67, Santanu Roy, 73, and Rupsha Banerjee, 39.
“The owner of the car, who was at the wheel, escaped unhurt. He has been arrested for alleged rash and negligent driving,” said an officer, refusing to disclose the owner’s name.
Officers of Maniktala police station seized the vehicle. The car will be subjected to a test to ascertain whether any mechanical fault led to the accident.
