Four police personnel, including the inspector-in-charge of Baguiati police station Kallol Ghosh, are suffering from dengue.
A senior officer of the Bidhannagar commissionerate said Ghosh was hospitalised on Saturday after his condition deteriorated. Of the three, one officer, a woman who lived alone, is admitted to a hospital while the two others are recuperating at their homes.
All police stations have been asked to conduct a clean-up drive both inside as well as outside the police station.
All police stations, including those in Salt Lake, Lake Town, Baguiati and New Town, have rows of stacked vehicles on their premises.
An official of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation’s health department said these vehicles often turned into breeding grounds for the mosquitoes that cause dengue.
“Water remains trapped under the bonnet, on the wheel rims and even under the seats that often go unnoticed and turn into breeding grounds for mosquitoes.”
Mosquitoes breed in clear and stagnant water. At least 40 persons have tested positive for dengue in areas under the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation in October alone.
A drive to spray larvicide around Baguiati and Lake Town police stations among others will be carried out, the health official added.
