Four men have been arrested for allegedly threatening and verbally abusing actors Jeetu Kamal and wife Nabanita Das at the Majherhati crossing, near Nimta police station, following a collision between the couple’s car and a pick-up van on Thursday.

The four are Aditya Pramanick, 39, Rahul Pramanick, 18, Sibasish Das, 22 and Rajib Mondal, 36. Das was driving the pick-up van, police said.

“Nabanita Das has filed a written complaint. Four men have been arrested,” said an officer of the Barrackpore police commissionerate.

A departmental inquiry has been started against Parshuram Bardolui, an assistant sub-inspector at Nimta police station, against whom the couple have lodged a complaint.

After the accident, an altercation broke out between the couple and the occupants of the pick-up van. Bardolui went to the spot and allegedly discouraged the couple from visiting the police station.

“We were literally discouraged from visiting the police station. But still we walked to the police station,” Kamal said.

“Some men gathered at the police station when we were waiting to lodge a complaint. One of them threatened to kill me. He said ‘dead kore debo’, ‘rape kore debo’. All this was happening in front of Bardolui. Instead of taking action, he asked the men to leave,” Nabanita alleged.

The couple said their driver was attacked by some residents, including the driver of the pick-up van.

Later on Thursday, a case was filed against the couple and their driver by the owner of the pick-up van alleging that his workers were assaulted and vehicle damaged.
