Fake currency unit busted near Kolkata, three held

Three people arrested from Rajabazar and Bidhannagar

A fake currency note manufacturing unit was busted near Kolkata and three people were arrested on Thursday.

The Kolkata Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested two people from Rajabazar with fake notes having a face value of Rs 70,000. Another man was arrested from Hatiara in Eco Park police station area of Bidhannagar with fake currency notes, said the police.

Following these arrests, the STF unearthed the manufacturing unit at a house in Hatiara.

“Machinery, chemicals and other raw materials were seized during the raid. A laptop, pen drives, a printer and several other materials were also seized,” a police officer said.

A case has been filed and further probe is underway, he said.

Earlier this month, the special task force also nabbed a man from CIT road near Moulali crossing with fake currency notes worth Rs 4 lakhs. The police arrested him acting on a tip-off and seized 800 fake notes of Rs 500. The man, hailing from Malda, was booked under relevant sections of the IPC.
