A Kasba resident who had allegedly been posing as a CID officer, an official of the vigilance department or a member of the medical council and fleecing people, was arrested in Garia on Sunday evening.
Sekhar Ganguly, in his early 60s, would usually target young women, offering them police jobs in return for money, police said.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a woman in July. The woman approached the police after she failed to get the job despite carrying out Ganguly’s orders.
The accused would allegedly meet the candidates for an initial screening and offer them jobs based on their educational qualifications.
The police said he had been arrested in 2016 and was released on bail.
