The Enforcement Directorate has set up a team to go through documents, files and electronic evidence in laptops, hard discs and mobile phones collected in search and seizure operations in at least nine locations in the city on Thursday.

The operation was conducted to reach the suspected beneficiaries of proceeds of crime from alleged corruption in recruitment in state-aided schools.

ED officers said over 2,000 pages of documents, at least four laptops and 14 mobile phones were seized from the houses and offices raided.

“If needed, this team will consult experts to carry out a forensic audit of the evidence collected,” said an ED officer.

“It is crucial to find out if there are links with different WhatsApp groups allegedly used by some of the accused in the case and those on the seized phones,” the officer said.

On Thursday, ED teams went to addresses in Burrabazar, Phoolbagan, Maniktala, Alipore and Ganesh Chandra Avenue to question individuals, including chartered accountants, exporters and businessmen.

The operation was to trace the money trail from alleged corruption in the recruitment of teachers and school staff between 2014 and 2021.

Cash haul

A team of ED officers conducted a search and seizure operation at an apartment in New Town on Friday and said they seized close to Rs 90 lakh. The team arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in duping thousands through online gaming apps.

This was a follow-up of an operation started on Wednesday that had led the team to an apartment in Kestopur.

The ED team on Thursday said they seized Rs 1.85 crore cash from the apartment but the prime accused fled.
