Meghadri Ghoshal got to hang a stethoscope round his neck as part of the get-up arranged by his school, Hariyana Vidya Mandir, on Doctor’s Day. And so excited was the 10-year-old to get a feel of a real stetho that he has now decided to become a doctor. “His plan till the other day was to become a police officer. But on July 1, he came home with a changed ambition,” laughs mother Moumita.

Hariyana Vidya Mandir has been holding Doctor’s Day more prominently ever since the pandemic began. “Earlier, we had just a minute’s speech in course of assembly. During the lockdown, we held the first Doctor’s Day event online,” said Sanjukta Sengupta, cultural co-ordinator of the morning section. This time, the event took place in school and the stethoscopes that caused so much excitement were arranged by Sikha Vajpayee, the science teacher, whose husband and son are doctors.

This was the first time that the junior school was celebrating the day. Three children, including Meghadri, delivered a speech on Bidhan Chandra Roy and recited poems.
