A 90-year-old woman from Pashchim Putiary’s Chatterjee Bagan in Tollygunge on the city’s southern fringes died of dengue on Tuesday, the third known dengue victim from the neighbourhood in less than a month.
Anjali Chakraborty passed away at MR Bangur Hospital on Tuesday morning. The death certificate mentioned “a case of recent dengue viral infection”.
On Sunday, a 53-year-old woman died of dengue at AMRI Hospitals Dhakuria. The woman, a resident of Tanupukur Road in Dhakuria, was admitted to the hospital at 11.45pm on Saturday (September 24). She died the next morning.
“She had been running a temperature and suffering from diarrhoea since September 19,” said an official of the hospital.
As for Chatterjee Bagan in Tollygunge, where Anjali Chakraborty lived, a 59-year-old woman and a 56-year-old woman from the neighbourhood died on September 11 and September 5, respectively.
Ratna Sur, councillor of Ward 115 (which covers parts of Tollygunge) of the KMC, said on Tuesday the civic body was trying its best to locate and destroy mosquito-breeding grounds.
“It’s disturbing that three persons from a locality (Chatterjee Bagan) died of dengue in quick succession,” she said.
