All graduating students who will visit St Xavier’s University, New Town, to receive their degrees at the institute’s third convocation scheduled for February 12 must come with a Covid-19 double vaccination certificate or an RT-PCR negative report not older than 72 hours before the ceremony.

“Only the degree recipients will be allowed inside the campus and must not be accompanied by anyone else,” says a notice signed by the university’s registrar, Ashis Mitra.

The event will be held on the football ground on the New Town campus to ensure adherence to the physical distancing norm, as a precaution against Covid.

An official of the university said the guardians are being told not to come to avoid crowding.

“It is also to be noted that convocation will be held following the government guidelines/orders, effective at the time of convocation,” the notice says.

The education department has ordered closure of all institutions till January 15 following a sharp rise in Covid cases. Further courses of action will be decided following a review of the situation.

An official of the university said: “If the government order at the time of convocation mandates that the ceremony cannot be held on the campus, we have to take note of that and act accordingly”.

On-campus examination of the college service commission was held on Sunday and over 65,000 candidates wrote the test at 189 centres across the state.

At St Xavier’s University, over 600 students, undergraduate and postgraduate together, will get their degrees.

Sanjiv Goenka, chairman, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, will be the guest of honour. Governor Jagdeep Dhankar will preside over the function.

Eligible students who have completed their degree programme in 2021 have been asked to register within January 25.
