A young couple were allegedly assaulted when they raised their voice against three youths who they said were drinking outside their rented house in Patuli on the city’s southern fringes early on Wednesday.
The couple have alleged that the three youths beat them up.
The husband is nursing a bruised left eye.
“We have arrested three youths in connection with the alleged assault on the couple in Patuli on Wednesday,” a police officer said.
The couple have mentioned in their complaint that the three youths had parked their two-wheeler outside their main door and started drinking.
Around 2am, when the youths allegedly started smashing glass bottles outside the door and on the pathway leading to a flight of stairs to the first floor of the house, the couple protested. They asked the youths not to litter the place with glass shards as they have a small kid at home.
The youths allegedly ignored the pleas and dared the couple to step out and confront them.
“I stepped out and asked the youths to clear the space in front of the door and the staircase. An altercation broke out and I was suddenly showered with blows,” a senior officer of Patuli police station said quoting the husband.
“After I fell, my wife rushed to me and was assaulted, too,” the man told the police.
Patuli witnessed a similar incident on October 23, when a couple were at the receiving end of a group of youths who were drinking outside their house on Kendua Main Road.
The youths allegedly beat up the couple and smashed glass panes of windows.
