Senior officers said they were examining each of the accidents to ascertain if the two wheelers had skidded because of the road surface or speeding.

Ajoynagar: A 25-year-old youth was injured after being hit by a car near the Ajoynagar crossing on EM Bypass around 2.15pm on Saturday. Police said Sunny Debnath, a resident of Bansdroni, has been hospitalised with multiple injuries. The driver of the offending vehicle fled from the spot leaving the car. The police said they have identified the accused and have launched a search for the accused driver.

Ronald Ross Sarani: Another accident that involved a four-wheeler was reported near Kidderpore Road around 11am. Two persons riding a motorcycle were hit by an app cab.

THe police said Subhasish Debnath, 24, a resident of Narendrapur and pillion rider Bimla Adhikary, 37, of South 24-Parganas were taken to SSKM Hospital where they were treated and discharged. The app cab was taken to Hastings police station and the driver was arrested.

“Both were wearing helmets,” said an officer.

The other three accidents were reported on Strand Road and Vidyasagar Setu.

Vidyasagar Setu: Police said Abdul Sohaib Saqib, 21, a resident of Howrah, was allegedly not wearing a helmet when his two-wheeler apparently skidded on the bridge around 2.30am.

Around 10am, a woman, Kulika Kundu, 48, riding a two-wheeler apparently lost control and skidded near city-bound bifurcation points on the Vidyasagar Setu. The injured woman was taken to the SSKM Hospital.
