Polling officials carrying election materials amid rains in Bhowanipore

The Bhowanipore Assembly constituency in south Kolkata will vote on Thursday. Alipore, Bhowanipore, Kalighat, Chetla, Shakespeare Sarani, Park Street, New Market and Tollygunge are part of the constituency.

Offices and shops

All offices and shops beyond 200 metres of polling stations will remain open.

Transport

No restriction on traffic. Cars may be stopped and occupants questioned, police said.

Pedestrian movement

People loitering near polling booths will be questioned. Those who fail to show identity documents and justify the cause of their visit may be penalised.

Cash in hand

People caught carrying more than Rs 50,000 will be subject to scrutiny. Documents on the source of the cash should be carried. Failure to show the documents may lead to the seizure of the cash and arrest of the person carrying it.

Voters’ identification

The voter has to show the electoral photo identity card or any of the following documents at the polling station

  • Aadhaar card; MNREGA job card; Passbook with photograph issued by bank/post office; Health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of the ministry of labour; Driving licence; PAN card; Smart card issued by RGI under NPR; Passport; Pension document with photograph; Service identity card with photograph issued by central/state government/PSUs/public limited companies; Official identity card issued to MPs/ MLAs/MLCs

Weather

The system that triggered Wednesday’s downpour has moved to Jharkhand. “The weather is set to improve on Thursday. The sky will be cloudy in parts. Rain is not ruled out but the intensity will be lesser,” the Met office said.

Umbrella

If it rains, voters will be allowed to enter the polling booth with umbrellas, police said.

Dry day

All liquor shops in the Kolkata police area shall remain closed till the end of voting on Thursday. Restaurants that are licensed to serve liquor may remain open but will not be allowed to serve liquor till the voting ends.

No parking

Parking will be prohibited on Lord Sinha Road and on the stretch of JL Nehru Road between its crossing with AJC Bose Road and Shakespeare Sarani.
