CBSE will allow students to change their exam centre city because many students are not in the city where their school is, the board said in a circular on Wednesday.

The central board that has published the timetable for the term 1 exam said it will ask students to make a request to the respective schools.

The board last week announced that the exam will be held on campus. Schools have started making preparations to conduct the exams on the premises.

“Central Board of Secondary Education has announced the date sheet of Class X & XII for the Term 1 examinations. It has come to the notice of the Board that some students are still not in the city of their school where they had taken admission and are residing somewhere else. In view of the above at an appropriate time CBSE will inform the students to make a request to their respective schools to change the city of examination centre,” the board said in Wednesday’s circular.

Schools will follow CBSE’s instructions to forward the requests to the board through an online system, the circular said.

In the circular, CBSE asked all schools and students to regularly check the board’s website.

“As soon as the students are informed in this regard they can make the request to their school within the schedule which will be of short duration. No request after the schedule will be accepted by the Board for change of examination centre city,” the circular said.

Teachers across schools said that there were students who had been attending online classes from other cities.

Several schools plan to check with parents next week whether they are in the city. Schools are shut now for Puja.

“We will share the notice with all parents of board classes. We have also asked all class teachers to reconfirm with students and parents,” said Amita Prasad, the director of Indus Valley World School.

Teachers said this move will ease the pressure for students because they won’t have to make arrangements to travel back to the city.

“It provides students and parents with an option much needed during the pandemic,” said the principal of a city school.
