The CBI on Thursday submitted a supplementary chargesheet against Subires Bhattacharyya, a former school service commission chief, and Chandan Mandal in connection with the alleged illegal appointment of Group C staff at government-aided schools.
Other co-accused were also named in the supplementary chargesheet submitted in the special CBI court in Alipore, officers said. Mandal’s name had emerged as a suspect in the alleged corruption in school recruitments two years ago, when former minister and retired IPS officer Upen Biswas spoke of his alleged role and introduced him as “Shat Ranjan” (honest Ranjan) in a social media post.
Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of Calcutta High Court had taken cognisance of the post and ordered the CBI to initiate an inquiry into Mandal’s alleged role based on the information shared by Biswas, who is a former additional director of the CBI. Mandal was arrested earlier this year.
Officers said the supplementary chargesheet was submitted against Bhattacharyya, Parna Bose and Puneet Kumar, among others.
