The traffic police have launched an e-traffic complaint card that allows a person to lodge an online complaint against a vehicle, driver or any other traffic law violator.
The complainant will have to fill in a form online and submit it with a click. “There is no need to fill in a physical form and hand it to a traffic guard,” an officer said.
The complaint card lists 15 violations, including refusal by a taxi driver to go to a particular place, demanding extra fare, defective taxi meter, rash driving and rude behaviour by a driver or a conductor. There are boxes against the listed offences. The complainant has to tick the relevant boxes.
A person can also lodge a complaint on a violation other than the ones mentioned. In such a complaint, a person has to describe the violation in a designated box within 255 words.
There is a separate column in the card about date, place, time, and the type of vehicle involved in the violation and its registration number.
The complainant will have to write his or her name, address, email ID and the contact number before submitting the form. A click on the “submit” button and the complaint will be uploaded on the traffic police website.
The complaint card is available on kolkatatrafficpolice.net. A link to the card has been posted on the Kolkata Traffic Police page on Facebook.
“The grievances shall be investigated and acted on and the complainant will be informed,” said Arijit Sinha, the deputy commissioner of police overseeing traffic management in Kolkata.
“The mechanism will help us act on grievances and receive feedback.”
Senior officers said that based on the complaint, CCTV footage will be scanned. The respective traffic guards may also be asked to investigate the complaints and submit a detailed report.
The police had launched a similar initiative a few years ago when traffic complaint cards were made available at police kiosks. But with time most kiosks ran out of cards.
Kite string injures traffic sergeant
A Kolkata police traffic sergeant, who was on his way to join duty at the East Jadavpur traffic guard on a motorbike, was injured after his throat got entangled in a kite string on the Parama flyover on Sunday morning.
Senior officers said Rupam Saha suffered a “scratch injury” on his throat. He was treated at a private hospital, after which he joined duty at the Avisikta crossing. The accident happened around 8am when Saha was passing through the Park Circus area.
Several motorcyclists have suffered injuries caused by kite strings on the flyover.
Police have held several awareness camps requesting people not to fly kites near the flyover as strings could harm motorcyclists.
