Car hits four, rams into Bowbazar tea stall at India Exchange Place

The area is usually congested throughout the day. But on Wednesday, the crowd was thinner because of the showers

A private car, that was allegedly speeding, hit four pedestrians before crashing into a tea stall at India Exchange Place on Wednesday morning, police said.

The four injured pedestrians were taken to CMRI Hospital.

The police identified the injured as Abhishek Dey, 47, Debendra Kumar Sharma, 56, Subham Kumar Singh, 21, and Pradip Rajak, 45.

“Rajak was discharged after necessary treatment,” a police officer said.

Sharma and Singh were taken to some other hospital later in the day, a CMRI official said.

Dey, who underwent surgery in the leg, is still at the hospital, the official said.

The driver of the car fled the spot.

The vehicle was has been seized and taken to Hare Street police station.

The accident took place around 8.25 am, when it was still raining.

The cops are looking for the driver. They are scanning the CCTV camera footage from the area.

India Exchange Place, between Bowbazar and BBD Bag, is one of the busiest business districts of Calcutta.
