A leader is only one of the team members that scripts the success stories: this was a common message from almost all the recipients of leadership and management excellence awards on Tuesday evening.

The Calcutta Management Association (CMA) Management Excellence Awards 2024 in association with The Telegraph, presented by Shrachi and powered by Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM) Kolkata, was an event studded with corporate stars at The Lalit Great Eastern.

If teamwork was the common refrain, a close second was the stress on hard work and work ethics.

The awards recognise outstanding contributions by top-level management professionals and celebrate those whose ideas and initiatives made a significant difference.

There were seven award categories — Business Leadership Award, Corporate Leadership Award, Emerging Leader Award, Public Service Award, Institutional Excellence Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and Management Hall of Fame Award.

Rahul Todi, managing director of Shrachi Realty, said: “It is a matter of huge prestige to be a part of this awards ceremony. These awards have been recognising leaders from our state, our city.”

One of the recipients, East India Pharmaceutical Works managing director Debarshi Duttagupta, said: “Having the word MD beside your name gives you the privilege to accept the award standing
here but it is the hard work of all staff that makes this possible.”

Hall of Fame Award winner Shib Sanker Mukherji, chairman, EIH Associated Hotels, spoke of the need for common sense to run a business, like most things in life.

“Managing business is mostly common sense. It is often said that common sense is not that common. That’s why some managers do better than others,” he said.
