A 30-year-old motorcyclist from Bhadreswar in Hooghly died after he lost control of his two-wheeler on the EM Bypass-VIP Road flyover near Golaghata and rammed into its guard-wall on Saturday morning.

His friend and pillion rider, a resident of Dum Dum, was admitted to a government hospital with injuries, an officer of the Bidhannagar Commissionerate’s traffic wing said.

Sachin Ojha and his friend Debanjan Paul were headed towards Lake Town when Ojha lost control and rammed into the guard-wall of the flyover at high speed.

The two were flung off the bike and fell face first on the road, the officer added.

“It is not clear if they had helmets on but we found one helmet on the road,” said the officer.

Passing motorists alerted traffic police at the Lake Town intersection on VIP Road.

Ojha was declared dead at a hospital and Paul was admitted to the critical care unit, the police said.
