Around 7am on Saturday, a rashly driven container-laden truck apparently lost control and hit a biker near the Kestopur underpass. The biker was seriously injured in the mishap. The Dum Dum-bound truck also rammed a taxi. Witnesses claimed that the truck also ran over the biker.
The impact of the mishap was so intense that the biker was thrown off his two-wheeler. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital on VIP Road. However, his condition deteriorated and was shifted to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Baguiati police seized the truck and a probe has been initiated.
Tension prevailed in the area as irate locals demanded action against rash driving and alleged that the stretch along VIP Road was getting dangerous thanks to drunk driving etc.
It may be noted that several subways have also been constructed on both sides of the VIP Road for the convenience of pedestrians and to reduce congestion on the thoroughfare. But even then, rash driving remains a major concern.
