The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital authorities have told the agitating students and junior doctors about the mandatory percentage of attendance required to appear for exams and urged them to withdraw their strike.

However, the students continued with their agitation.

“They were told in no uncertain terms that 75 per attendance in theory classes and 80 per cent in practicals are a must to appear in the upcoming exams of the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. They will lose a year if they do not write the exam,” an official of the hospital said on Friday.

The stern message came after a section of MBBS students refused to call off the strike, which started around 20 days ago. Most of the protesting postgraduate trainees and interns have resumed work.

The removal of the principal is the key demand of the protesters. The administration has ruled it out.
