The Alipore Independence Museum, housed in the 116-year-old Alipore Jail premises, now has an app to help visitors navigate the area.

The museum, which was inaugurated in September 2022, recorded a footfall of over 14,000 visitors on Christmas Day. The app is likely to help the New Year crowd, which is expected to be larger.

“After downloading the app named Alipore Museum, it would show the entire 15.2 acres of area. The app will display the important sites and historical places,” said an official from the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO). The audio narration on the history of these places will be done in Bengali and Hindi.

“The museum has several historical artefacts and places and if a person wants to have a detailed tour, he must download the app. It will not only help navigate the place but also educate about the detailed history,” said the official. The app has been developed by a Salt Lake-based company, which had also developed the Ecopark Navigator app a few years back.

According to officials, a number of new features are likely to be added to the Alipore Museum app soon, including a ticket-booking facility and a café menu.
