After exhibiting in Calcutta at multiple exhibitions and multi-designer stores for six-seven years, label Antar-Agni by designer Ujjawal Dubey now has a permanent address in the city on Chakraberia Road. The first flagship store in Calcutta exudes cosy vibes and has opened with the brand’s latest collection that they launched at their recent fashion week showing and a capsule line for Calcutta with black-and-whites and a dash of festive.
“We have been wanting to come to Calcutta for a very long time because the enthusiasm here is on another level, which I enjoy. But then no matter how much you try, few things take their sweet time and you really can’t push, you wait for it to happen,” said Ujjawal, who studied design at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Calcutta.
For Divya Ganeriwala and Surbhi Poddar, East India partners, getting the brand in Calcutta was an unanimous choice. “We got to know Antar-Agni during my wedding almost seven years back and we were happy to see a brand that was cool and traditional at the same time and we loved it. So we always wanted to get the brand in Calcutta because the city has very few good options for men,” said Divya Ganeriwala. “The brand’s outfits have cuts and designs that are such cutting edge and contemporary that it demands a store where one can wear and try them. Online shopping doesn’t give you the exact feel. We love the brand, Antar-Agni has always pushed the boundaries with its avant garde designs. The brand is celebrated for its unique fusion of traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern, minimalist aesthetics. The brand has fluid silhouettes, earthy tones and has carved out a niche for itself over the years,” said Surbhi Poddar.
