Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer

Perhaps one of the finest true-crime documentaries ever made, the two-part mini-series rides solely on the shoulders of the chief narrator Deanna Thompson, one of the leaders of the Internet army who closely followed the case online and predicted the grotesque outcome that finally takes place at the end. A gruesome video posted online recording the murder of a kitten sets off Internet sleuths who invest time and effort to try and collect enough data from the sparse videos to locate the criminal. What ensues is a witch hunt like no other, which also highlights the downfalls of couch activism. One wrong person accused of a crime can change lives and even end them.

Anni: The Honeymoon Murder

There are some cases that leave you reeling in their aftermath and the Cape Town murder of Anni Dewani, a Swedish woman of Indian origin who married her beau Shrien Dewani and was horrifically murdered in a scary part of Cape Town that is hardly ever visited by tourists. The testimonies of the taxi driver and hotel clerk changed over time and it was revealed that her husband had mediated the murder in an effort to hide his sexuality. However, the high-profile case across continents had the most bizarre end with multiple situations that raised suspicion against Shrien. Watch the case unfold and feel moved by the grief of a family that never received true closure.

Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer

Nicknamed the Torso Killer or the Times Square Killer, Richard Cottingham’s story will send shivers down your spine. The man who has confirmedly raped and killed upwards of 11 women (he later claimed a number larger than 100) left his victims grotesquely disfigured with missing limbs and even heads. Some of his victims couldn’t be identified because of their missing heads. In the backdrop of this case is an evolving New York City that is plagued by sex shops and prostitution. Get a glimpse of Times Square and its questionable shops back in the early ’90s, that has now given way to a tourist destination.
