The first Monday of May is among the most awaited for fashion lovers around the world thanks to the annual MET Gala. With the fashion exhibit In America: A Lexicon of Fashion opening up, this year’s theme for the red-carpet affair at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art was ‘Gilded Glamour.’

Among the star-studded guests was Natasha Poonawalla – in a custom-made couture Sabyasachi sari and trail. The executive director of Serum Institute of India and chair of the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation looked like a golden goddess in the ensemble, which also had a Schiaparelli Couture bustier and custom jewellery by Sabyasachi Fine Jewellery, along with a Bhavya Ramesh ring, Christian Louboutin shoes and glasses by Anna Karin Karlsson.

If Sabyasachi’s Instagram post is anything to go by, it was a proud moment and a dream come true for the star Kolkata designer, who said in the post that as a young fashion student, he “wondered when I would see the sari at big global fashion events like the Met Gala.”

As is with the gala every year, everyone brought their fashion A-game, and here are a few looks that stood out:

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

The couple were the hosts of the night along with Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Lively wore a gorgeous atelier Versace gown that transformed into something quite unexpected giving her a second look on the carpet. Reynolds wore a classic suit-and-tie graciously letting his wife be the ‘gilded glamour’.

Lin Manuel Miranda

Co-host Lin Manuel Miranda made his debut appearance on the MET’s red carpet. The Encanto director turned up in his gentlemanly best in a longtail. The exaggerated lapels added that flair fit for the gala.

Kim Kardashian

As always Kim K looked flawless in vintage Jean Louis. This is the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore when she sang Happy Birthday to JFK. Well, if that doesn’t fit the theme, we don’t know what will!

Billie Eilish

In a mint and gold corset and a skirt inspired by the full vintage gowns, Billie Eilish clinched the theme just right.

Lizzo

The singer looked like an absolute diva in her black-and-gold Thom Browne piece and in true Lizzo-style, she arrived with her flute on the red carpet and played it too!

Sebastian Stan

‘Bucky’ Stan arrived wearing a hot pink Valentino ensemble right from his jacket to his shoes and we are living for it.

The Bridgertons

The Bridgerton cast had a mini reunion on the red carpet and each of the members sported looks Lady Whistledown would surely gossip about. The Duke, Regé-Jean Page, looked dapper in a deep blue velvet coat, while the leading ladies of both seasons, Phoebe Dynevor and Simone Ashley, kept it sexy and minimalist with Dynevor is a sheer black dress and Ashley sporting a gold sparkly bustier with a long black skirt.

Lady Whistledown herself, Nicola Coughlan, brought the oomph in a pink-and-black Victorian-gown-inspired number.
