Shuffling Suitcases is ready to host a two-day pop-up with Okhai, a homegrown brand that’s known for its handcrafted apparel and lifestyle products made by rural artisans across India. The pop-up will see the launch of their new collection too. Okhai will be represented by the women artisans who give the brand its unique edge.

Devyani Kapoor, the passionate founder and director of Shuffling Suitcases, expressed her enthusiasm about the upcoming event. She said, “We’ve had the privilege of working with Okhai in the past, both as a CSR initiative and as a brand for our pop-up events. What truly resonates with us is how Okhai places the women who create these exquisite garments at the forefront. This approach fosters transparency, ownership, and aligns perfectly with what Shuffling Suitcases stands for.”

Okhai, supported by Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD), has made significant strides in promoting rural artisans and preserving traditional Indian crafts. Through the establishment of self-help groups (SHGs) in Okhamandal villages, over 2,300 rural artisans have benefited from Okhai’s training programs. With a goal to reach 5,000 artisans in the next five years, Okhai not only ensures sustainable livelihoods but also serves as a platform to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage on a global scale.

Manorath Dhikkion, the head of Okhai, expressed her excitement about returning to Calcutta after three years. She said, “We have eagerly awaited this opportunity to present our new collection at Shuffling Suitcases. We encourage customers to come, experience, and appreciate the garments lovingly crafted by our talented artisans. As a special highlight, we are delighted to have two of our artisans representing the brand during the event.”

The event promises to provide visitors with a unique opportunity to engage with artisans, learn about their crafts, and make informed choices while supporting sustainable fashion.
