Samsung has finally launched its ultra portable projector called The Freestyle, which lives up to the name, and can well be the product of the year, especially for those who are new to projectors.
The product was first showcased at this year’s CES but now it can be in your living room. The biggest feature of the projector is perhaps plug and play. There is instant set-up with keystone correction as well as auto focus. Portable projectors have been around for a while but this looks like among the most compact and lightweight efforts.
There is a swivel design to line up videos wherever you want, even on the ceiling. That’s right, you can watch a YouTube video or stream a movie from any of the services right on your wall or ceiling… anywhere.
In way of port selection, things have been kept simple to HDMI and Type-C. So you can connect your laptop anytime and make a presentation on the go. It’s as simple. Since it’s a compact projector, there is no power pack in the projector; you need to keep it plugged to a power source.
The Freestyle – which operates on Tizen OS — can pump out videos of full HD resolution and there is a 5W speaker on the bottom which blasts at 360 degrees. Being a standalone projector, you don’t need to connect it with the phone but you can always use the SmartThings app to access extra functions.
There is Samsung TV Plus, which gives access to a range of free content besides a vast array of pre-installed streaming apps. There is also an ambient mode which lets you project neon-style messages or pictures on the wall, which is beneficial during birthdays or parties.
The Freestyle will be available at all Samsung retail stores, leading consumer electronics stores, and across online platforms. If you are buying the projector on March 31, before midnight, you will get a free carry case worth Rs 5,900. Consumers who have pre-reserved The Freestyle can avail discount worth Rs 4,000. Otherwise, The Freestyle has been launched at a special price of Rs 84,990.
