Welcome back to this cult show that we all know as Koffee with Karan!” That’s how Ranveer Singh kicks off the teaser trailer of Season 7 of the show that returns almost four years after the sixth season. The delay hasn’t really been because of the pandemic pause, but has more to do with the controversy Season 6 racked up — from comments and quips made by some guests, the ever-raging debate on nepotism and the brouhaha created by actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s unfortunate demise, most of which centred around host Karan Johar.

But the good thing is that Koffee with Karan is finally back — moving from TV to OTT and streaming on Disney+Hotstar from 7pm today — and from the looks of it, things are set to get steaming, and steamy, like never before.

Playlists to positions, exes to unhappy marriages

Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Vijay Deverakonda will make their debut on the (in) famous couch this season

Kicking off the season will be Gully Boy co-stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, who will also appear together in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, directed by Karan. This may come as a huge disappointment to fans who were expecting newlyweds and soon-to-be parents Alia and Ranbir Kapoor to be on the couch together. Karan, however, has claimed that Ranbir has refused to make an appearance this season to avoid controversy. But given the show’s penchant to pull a rabbit out of its hat, Ranbir may make an appearance. On our wish list? An episode with Ranbir teaming up with former ladylove Deepika Padukone.

Episode One, meanwhile, promises to be a cracker, with very few things being off limits. The teaser has Ranveer — who is, of course, married to Deepika — revealing he has a variety of “sex playlists”. Ahem! Alia’s pregnancy is unlikely to be discussed given the episode was probably taped before Ranbir and Alia made the baby-on-the-way announcement.

Another set of co-stars — Anil Kapoor and Varun Dhawan, who recently played father and son in JugJugg Jeeyo — whipping up some crazy fun, with an out-of-context moment from the teaser teasing us with Varun talking about sex positions, including “helicopter!”

Pals Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor also promise a fun episode. When asked about her ex, Sara says that’s he’s “everyone’s ex”. Could that be a snide comment about Kartik Aaryan? Well! Samantha Ruth Prabhu, making her debut on the Koffee with Karan couch, tells Karan that he was the reason behind “unhappy marriages” as he has “portrayed life to be K3G when the reality is KGF”! Joining her will be Akshay Kumar, with the two making for an unlikely combination. Given that Akshay makes about half a dozen films a year, is a film with Samantha on the cards? Very likely!

Also making his Koffee debut will be south sensation Vijay Deverakonda, who makes his Bollywood debut with August film Liger, produced by Karan Johar. He will appear with Ananya Panday, his co-star in the film. In KJo-speak, it’s all about the (Dharma) family, isn’t it?

The other sets of co-stars set to appear on the show will be Heropanti actors Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon, and Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, who starred together in the blockbuster Kabir Singh. For those expecting Kiara and Sidharth Malhotra to make their relationship public on the show, that isn’t happening. For now, at least.

Our wish list

(L-R) Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif; Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone

A mint-fresh couple we really want to watch this season are Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif. The good-looking couple kept their romance hush-hush before tying the knot late last year, and we can’t wait to hear details of their love story!

Also on our wish list are power couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, but given the fallout of last season’s controversial episode featuring cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, that’s not something that Karan should be able to pull off. Which also means that KL Rahul and girlfriend Athiya Shetty won’t be seen on the show together anytime soon. Malaika Arora has frequently featured in the final episode of the season, picking her best moments. Will she make an appearance with beau Arjun Kapoor this time?

Man of the moment Kartik Aaryan — riding high on the blockbuster success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 — stands a 50-50 chance of making an appearance, given the awkward equation he shares with Karan, post the actor’s controversial exit from Dostana 2.

Karan has claimed that none of the Khans — Aamir, Salman or close buddy Shah Rukh — are on for this season. Or are they? Let’s wait and watch!
