Gen Z yellow represents optimism and spurs creativity. Be it Kate Middleton or Beyonce, they have appreciated shades of this colour because it’s expressive. Apple knows it well and has announced a new yellow iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, adding more colour choices to the lineup this spring.

These are the two variations of the phone that is being used by most first-time users or those who have upgraded from an older model. Companies often use colours to speak to a consumer who is looking to be empowered and this is where yellow fits in well.

Apple chose the right time to present the iPhone in a new shade. A change in seasons has a psychological impact. The weather changes and certain colours make an impact. Yellow radiates joy and captures the essence of spring and summer.

Remember how Beyonce sported a mustard-coloured Roberto Cavalli gown in the video to her song, Hold Up. She was full of feminist anger. Since then the colour has been on the catwalk, in shop windows and in celebrity wardrobes.

Of course, Apple is ensuring the phone lives up to all the elements yellow stands for. Both phones have a durable Ceramic Shield front cover, an updated internal design for better sustained performance and easier repairs, and excellent battery life, with iPhone 14 Plus offering the longest battery life of any iPhone ever. Further, both models come with a dual-camera system for top-notch photography. The powerful A15 Bionic chip drives the phone while innovative safety capabilities include Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection.

The five-core GPU enables faster speeds for demanding workloads and smooth graphics for video apps and high-performance gaming. Some of the photography- and video-related features to look at include Action mode, and Cinematic mode. The six-core CPU with two performance and four efficiency cores handles intensive tasks with ease, and the 16-core Neural Engine is capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second.

As always, the latest version of the operating system is packed with features. At the moment we have the iOS 16, which features the biggest update ever to the Lock Screen, with a multilayered effect that artfully sets subjects of photos in front of the time, widgets that offer information at a glance, and a new wallpaper gallery for inspiration. And if you are in the mood for singing, keeping the season in mind, try Apple Music Sing. Users can sing along to their favourite songs with adjustable vocals and real-time lyrics.

Those planning to buy a new iPhone, the yellow variant of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will be available to preorder on March 10, with availability starting March 14. It will be available in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage capacities, starting at Rs 79,900 and Rs 89900 respectively.
