What to expect: The British Deputy High Commission Kolkata is hosting the Great British Open Quiz in association with The Telegraph to celebrate the long relationship between the United Kingdom, Bengal and India. The quiz is part of a Great British Season that the British Deputy High Commission in Calcutta is hosting to celebrate the United Kingdom and India’s shared living bridge. An array of programmes and events are being organised to showcase Britain’s past, present and future links with India, and Bengal in particular, in culture, education, sports, technology and tourism. In doing so, the British Deputy High Commission aims to further strengthen the close ties between Bengal and Britain. Celebrated quizmaster Siddhartha Basu will conduct the quiz. Any resident of the city can participate in the quiz by being part of a two-member team. Teams can register by email or at the venue. Exciting prizes are on offer for participants and the audience. They include Calcutta-London return tickets by Emirates, e-cyles, coffeetable books, cameras, British Club memberships, Bluetooth headphones, TV sets and gift hampers. Christina Scott, minister and British Deputy High Commissioner to India, will conduct a special round and also give away the prizes.

Organiser speak: “Our Great British Season of events has seen us look at the full panoply of links and bonds between our two great countries. Food and sport were obvious picks. But in the past, we may have overlooked our shared passion for quizzes. And, believe me, it is a passion both in the United Kingdom and in India. Quizzes bring us together. Win or lose, the pandemonium of trying to recall the right answer and the hilarity of getting it wrong, bond participants and the audience. So, roll on the First UK/India Great Open Quiz and thank you to our sponsors,” said Nick Low, British deputy high commissioner to Calcutta.
