Cute, fun and colourful! ‘It’s The Time to Mickey’— a collaborative collection between Disney X The Label Life, is like a burst of happiness. The Label Life style editor Malaika Arora takes The Telegraph through the making of the collection and tells us why the evergreen cartoon icon is on her “hotlist”!
The collection looks so cute! This collaboration must have been a lot of fun!
It sure was! And most importantly, it was the right time for this nostalgic collaboration. We knew as a team that it was time for something colourful, joyous and nostalgic. Disney’s Mickey Mouse inspired us to do just that. And while Mickey Mouse himself is sketched out in his classic colours, the pop hues of the outfits add an element of happy energy. The collection has a range of silhouettes from transitional separates to breezy dresses that are classic “wear-on-repeat” styles, seamlessly easing into effortless outfits for work, the next vacay, or even that quick Sunday brunch.
What are your favourites from the range?
My true favourite is the shirt with Mickey Mouse popping out of the pocket. It encapsulates everything the collection stands for — playful and party perfect!
Mickey Mouse is evergreen. When was the first time you fell in love with him?
As a kid of course — who was not in love with Mickey Mouse?! He always adds a smile to every face. Always chic, cool and a little bit adventurous, which describes me and this Disney edit rather well!
Did you wear Mickey Mouse-inspired fashion?
I don’t think I ever owned a Mickey Mouse-inspired piece of clothing before, which worked out just fine if you ask me because now I’ve styled the coolest collection with Disney’s iconic character there can be! And I will be wearing these classic styles on repeat.
Those were such innocent times. Do you often miss them?
While a part of me wants to go back to that innocence sometimes, I have truly embraced who I am today and instead find ways to bring back that joy and naivete into my everyday life. And that is the ethos of what we do at The Label Life. As a team of women designing and styling for fellow women, we launch elevated essentials to compliment your ultimate moment — the birthdays, the brunches and the board meetings!
Do you still watch Disney content ?
Hahah! To unwind maybe, in a way. Whenever I want to take a trip down memory lane and soak up some feel-good nostalgia, I definitely watch some and as you can imagine, Mickey Mouse is on the hotlist!
If you could totally identify with a Disney character, who would it be?
Mickey Mouse, of course! Super cheerful and always with a positive outlook — that’s who I will always find inspiring. And inspiring enough to work out so many different interpretations for our Disney edit.
What’s Malaika Arora’s festive fashion this season?
Glad you asked that question since some of the pieces from this collection can actually be styled quite well for all festivities. Take the Mickey Monogram co-ord set for instance. Super comfortable with a statement print — just add some much-needed bling with your jewellery and you’re all set for that card party! Oh and the charcoal jumpsuit is also quite a standout style. Plus, you can always throw on the yellow Mickey Mouse jacket if it gets too chilly at that Diwali brunch. So yeah, I am wearing my playful Disney X The Label Life collection right through the festive season.
