The Textile Tale is the latest fashion store to join the melee of retail stores and boutiques that specialises in selling saris in south Calcutta but what sets it apart from the rest is its ambiance, a passionate leader, and most importantly its collection. The Textile Tale is the brainchild of Soma Chattoraj, a Calcutta girl who has stayed and worked in different parts of the world and who is a great champion of ethnic wear, particularly saris. The store is her first entrepreneurial venture and is her effort to make the sari more accessible to women of all ages.

Utilising the 1100 sq ft space judiciously, there’s ample space to check out the collection that showcases the diversity of India with its textiles, particularly saris. Located at Keyatala, the store has an inviting ambiance and a collection from different corners of the country, painstakingly and thoughtfully designed keeping both the younger and the older generations in mind. From the delicate artistry of Chikankari in the Lanes of Lucknow collection, to the timeless elegance of Vintage Varanasi, each piece is a celebration of craftsmanship and culture of Benares. The Jewels of Jaipur offer a glimpse into the grandeur of Rajasthan with Jaipuri prints and Bandhni mastery while Mehfil-e-Shaam helps the woman of today glam up their evening wear through embroidery and trendy organza. There’s also Kolkata Kautha that brings a variety of weaves from Bengal for all those who love handlooms and other textiles popular here.

Soma Chattoraj, founder-CEO, The Textile Tale, is passionate about the grace of the nine yard. She said, “We are thrilled to introduce our first retail space to Calcutta, a manifestation of The Textile Tale and commitment to weaving stories into every fabric. This store is more than a place to shop; it’s an immersive experience where our customers become part of the culture of TTT and where all of us come together for the passion we have for fashion and craftsmanship. Having worked in the corporate sector, for the past 12 years, I felt that a sari was the best showcase of the modern Indian woman on a global platform and hence I have brought different weaves under one roof.”
