Raw Mango’s ‘Suzegad’ has all the quintessential Raw Mango elements. Rich textiles. Drama. A story. And, a deep sense of languid longing. Now showcasing at Elahe in Calcutta, Sanjay Garg chats with t2 about the collection.

‘Suzegad’ looks beautiful...

‘Susegad’ is the Goan word and condition of being relaxed and laid-back – it’s a vibe. Our new festive collection ‘Suzegad’ draws from Goan life. ‘Suzegad’ has saris and garments in Varanasi silk brocade, satin silk and organza. We have created aari and dori kaam embroidered Mughal motifs, polo-necked blouses and some pieces have quilting and patchwork.

"Raw Mango is about the handcrafted, and it takes time to think, design, create – it’s a slower way of doing things, that is sustainable"

In that sense, the ethos of the brand has been to take it easy and be yourself. And it has seeped into your life too. How do you live now?

Raw Mango is about the handcrafted, and it takes time to think, design, create – it’s a slower way of doing things, that is sustainable. Our stores capture this essence as well, it’s not a hyper-sell environment – instead a place you can step into to have a coffee and simply browse while your kids can play in the garden. I live in Chattarpur farms in Delhi - my house and studio are beautifully disconnected from the city, yet still accessible on a day-to-day basis. I felt a connect with the surroundings - it’s almost as if my village (Mubarikpur) exists in the city.

The Raw Mango woman has always been an independent woman. What is your idea of independent living?

Raw Mango woman is always one who lives by her own rules. She is all about balance. Independent living is finding this balance, and being comfortable in what you are.
