If there’s one song that is sure to come up whenever you open Instagram for over a year now, it’s Unholy by Kim Petras and Sam Smith. The slow-groove hyperpop number has an almost haunting quality to it with beats that are sure to make you sway and give you an earworm. While the remix versions of the song by David Guetta and Nova Twins are extremely popular too, what has recently caught everyone's attention is a unique cover of the song by the Nandy Sisters and Rani KoHEnur.

The singer duo Antara and Ankita Nandy collaborated with singer and popular queer icon Sushant Divgikr aka Rani KoHEnur, for a rendition blending Unholy with the huge hit Lavni number Wajle ki Bara.

The crossover is a part of the Gungane Le series that Antara and Ankita have on their social media channels, where they collaborate with celebrities and other artistes. For this musical collab with Rani, they picked the 2022 release Unholy front he album Gloriai, combining it with Bela Shende’s Wajle ki Bara from 2010 Atul Kulkarni starrer Marathi film Natarang.

The rendition also got the My Kolkata team grooving and we got in touch with the artistes for some BTS info. “It was nothing short of pure joy and fun,” said Antara about the collab, adding that Rani is “one of the nicest people to be around.”

“Since the day we pitched our idea [to Rani] of doing Unholy with Wajle Ki Bara, her reaction was absolutely priceless,” said Ankita, also mentioning that Rani made a special Konkani Egg Curry for the duo when they visited her home. “Throughout the shoot and the recording, she was constantly cracking jokes, and when we decked up for the shoot, she was complimenting us.”

The sisters were also in awe of Rani’s professionalism and the fact that she was quick and approachable since the time the siblings got in touch with her for the collaboration. “She knows what she has to do and comes up with great on-the-spot ideas. We were prepared for her to be flawless, but then we weren’t prepared to come up with the voice switch, which was one of the key elements and biggest surprises of the track,” shared Antara.

Commenting on the video, Rani wrote that it was “an absolutely wonderful experience sharing space and welcoming both you wonderful DEVIS” tagging Antara and Ankita and gave a shoutout to their mother, the “brilliant QUEEN SUPREME,” who helped the trio drape all their saris.

Both Antara and Ankita often add Hindustani classical touches in several of their covers, and this time, the duo agreed upon doing the same. “There are endless possibilities with Rani, and there’s so much to explore with her. We wanted to make a content which would be epic,” the sisters added.
