Vaayu is the latest one joining the league of restaurants in South Calcutta and it opened with a host of elements that make this 3,000sqft address the new hotspot to be at. Appealing interiors, interesting games and new flavours on the plate are a few pointers that make pub-hoppers lounge here and have a great time. Its close proximity to the Dhakuria Lake is also an aspect providing balm to the eyes and the soul. Its novelty also lies in the array of beer and wine-based cocktails mixed and presented in unusual glasses by efficient mixologists. Presently, the menu at Vaayu showcases 12 different kinds of Sangrias and 10 types of beer-based cocktails. Other specialty drinks include Coffee Wine (wine infused with premium coffee), Coffee Beer and the Harry Potter-inspired ‘Butterbeer’.
Vaayu is the brainchild of Shreya and Shreyas Jhunjhunwala who have embarked on the F&B industry after a three-year stint in the hotel industry. Shreya said: “Vaayu gives the vibe of a Bangalore pub and a Goan shack, adding to the old-school charm of Calcutta’s adda culture. Local tastes and preferences have been used as inspiration for the menu. Vaayu is the first in Eastern India to bring 25-plus varieties of beer and wine cocktails, which can be enjoyed with fun drinking games at affordable pricing. The woodwork, the rustic wall-art, the carefully crafted haystack ceiling and the cane-basket lights, add up to the ‘speakeasy’ theme and create a mesmerising ambience for a ‘Vaayulicious’ time!”
