I love you like a love song baby” to “I’m so sick of that same old love” — Selena Gomez’s songs popped up in our head when we recently walked into Soba Sassy, the modern Asian restaurant on Ho Chi Minh Sarani. Why you wonder? Because instead of love quotes and ‘love is in the air’ vibes, the pretty dine den had more of a non-Valentine’s Day feel with self-love messages, some cool photo corners and an all-new Love Detox menu. The mood was anything but Valentine’s Day mush. The new menu threw up a lot of surprises in terms of food and cocktails that we loved.

“Soba Sassy is by far our most successful brand and it turned a little over one year so we were waiting to launch the new menu. And instead of calling the menu anti-Valentines we want to say that we are focusing on individualism and self-love. There are guests who know our menu by heart, so much so that they don’t even see the menu to order. So for them and our new guests we put together a menu by putting ingredients and doing things we haven’t done so far. For example, mock meat, grilled salmon.... The idea is to play with fresh ingredients and give solid and whole flavours to our guests. The drink menu focuses on presentation, fun names and given the menu is rolling out in the love month, we have kept that theme in mind,” said Harsh Sonthalia, co-owner, Soba Sassy.

From closed baos, dumplings, sushis to traditional Oriental comfort mains, the new menu has all that you can pair with cocktails with funky names (think Broken Heart Breeze, No More In Love) too!

This phone is a new addition at Soba Sassy that says its a Sushi Hotline where you lift the receiver and scream for sushi!

Our fave new section is this zone where you just press the bell for wine and pop comes out a hand holding a glass of chilled wine almost in no time! Raise a toast to life and sip!

We tried the crispy Fried Asparagus and Cheese Dim Sums that come on a pool of a spicy chilli broth that enhances the taste.

No More In Love will remind you of Candyland because it comes with a sour candy that you bite into and sip on. This delicious gin cocktail has a fruity pear cider, pear cordial, poached pear brine and garnished with a block of ice.

For someone who loves baos but avoids them in a restaurant because it gets messy to eat, say hello to closed bao. We tried the Creme Cheese and Truffle Bao which were dusted with cheese powder on top. Utterly delicious!
