With Australia being announced as the special focus country in the 29th Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), the Australian consulate general hosted a party ahead of the festival on December 4 at The Oberoi Grand. Film personalities and guests from other walks of life attended the meet-and-greet. Australian filmmaker Bruce Beresford, six of whose films, including the Oscar-winning Driving Miss Daisy, were screened at KIFF, was formally welcomed to the city at the gathering.

The guests were also informed about the Tram of Horror initiative by the Australian consulate to promote the outback horror films — from the early classic Picnic at Hanging Rock by Peter Weir and Hannah Barlow’s thriller Sissy to the terrifying cult classic Wolf Creek by Greg Mclean and horror-comedy 100 Bloody Acres by Cameron and Colin Cairness that were screened at KIFF this year.
