What about Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings inspired you to make the collection?

Well, I wanted to bring the historical references of the saris and bring it to the newer generation to understand that we have been following interesting drapes for thousands of years and it is relevant even today. And, as a designer of today, I have interpreted it in a way where you can wear it to any family function and it will make you look much younger.

What are the textiles that have gone into the collection?

They are handloom, soft and drapeable. It drapes the body in a comfortable way and accentuates the curves. We had saris from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bengal, Maharashtra and even south... the Kanjeevaram look.

The styling was gorgeous...

The draping differs from person to person. Choose a drape that looks most flattering on you. We design the drapes according to the person. I will be there in Kolkata to style the person accordingly.

What are some of your favourite saris?

Sariwise, I have got this beautiful Paithani of yesteryears. Then I have this white-and-gold sari. I have woven saris from different regions of India. I have got a very beautiful Jamdani from Murshidabad in indigo blue, natural dye.
