Cannes, May 16 (Reuters): Uma Thurman may be considered by many as the sexiest woman alive, but the actress said she tried to make the character of The Bride she plays in Kill Bill as unseductive as possible.
Cult director Quentin Tarantino, who is president of the jury at the Cannes film festival, today showed the second part of his revenge saga, Kill Bill — Volume Two, to a warm reception from critics. Journalists jostled to catch a peek at Thurman, the face of Lancome cosmetics, at a news conference afterwards. Looking every inch the star in a faded pink silk blazer and blue jeans, she said she did not consider The Bride a femme fatale.
“She’s fatal, but not too femme. Actually, she was quite unfeminine. There was very little vanity about the character, quite the opposite,” she said.
“That was something that I felt very strongly in the character, she had been stripped of things like vanity and flirtation or seduction,” Thurman added.
Told by a journalist that The Bride, aka assassin Black Maba, still managed to look very sexy, Thurman replied with a laugh: “Well, that’s an accident.”
