Jamshedpur, May 20: Shishir Dash of Loyola School and Bhabna Das of Little Flower topped the ISC and ICSE examinations respectively. Shishir notched up 97.25 per cents, while Bhabna scored 96.8 per cent.
Sourav Chatterjee from LFS with 96.4 per cent marks came second. Prithviraj Sen Sharma from Rajendra Vidyalaya stood third with 95.6 per cent marks.
“Bhabna did not have a fixed study schedule. Neither did she take tuition,” said Bhabna’s mother. A science student, Bhabna wants to pursue a career in journalism, law or engineering.
Sourav Chatterjee did not burn midnight oil. “Sourav avoided late night cramming and made sure he finished his studies during the day,” Sourav’s mother, Amrita Chatterjee said.
The second position in the ISC is jointly held by four students, Amrita Aggarwal of SHCS, Somsubra Maity and R. Narayan both from DBMS and Shramik Pandey of LFS with 96 per cent marks.
Shishir, who cleared his IIT screening test, said he had concentrated on the entrance tests. “I concentrated more on the IIT entrance examination as my preparations for physics, chemistry and mathematics was taken care while preparing for JEE,” said Shishir.
“As for English and computers, I started poring over books just a couple of weeks before the examinations,” Shishir said.
In the Commerce stream, Vasudha Singhania of SHCS romped home with 95.75 per cent marks. Somnath Adak of Narbheram Hansraj English School clinched the second position with 95 per cent marks. Swati Sarawgi of SHCS followed third with 94.75 per cent marks and Prashan Jha from KSMS secured the fourth place with 93 per cent marks.
Debosree Roy of Loyola School topped the arts stream in the city with 95.5 per cent marks. Her classmate, Suchismita Bose, came second with 93 per cent marks.
Debosree said she started the preparations only a few months before the preliminary board examinations.
“I will wither take English or psychology honours. I want to seek admission to St Stephen’s or Lady Shriram in Delhi,” she said said.
“I did not plan my study. Staying up in the night was almost next to impossible and I usually dozed off by 11 pm,” says Amrita of SHCS, an active member of the Interact Club of her school and a state level basketball player.
Principals of various schools were happy with the performance of the students. “I am extremely glad to see that the efforts of the students and teachers have paid off,” said Sister Teresita Mary, principal of Sacred Heart Convent School.
“I am not really satisfied with the ICSE results as I expected better performance. However, our ISC results have been quite impressive,” Manjula Chatterjee, principal Gulmohur High School, said.
